The largest city in the Ruhr region is particularly well known among sports enthusiasts: after all, it is home to Borussia Dortmund rel=‘noopener’>Borussia Dortmund, one of Germany’s most successful football clubs, is based here, and the Signal Iduna Park stadium, with around 81,000 seats, is the largest football stadium in the country. In addition, the German Football Museum opened in 2015 directly opposite Dortmund Central Station, where visitors can discover the most important moments in German football history.
But Dortmund is also a multifaceted city that has undergone structural change from a coal and steel metropolis to a service and technology hub, and is now considered a centre for the insurance sector and retail trade. The traces of the former mining industry are now impressive sites of industrial culture. Among other things, the LWL Industrial Museum is located in the Zeche Zollern, while several other important points on the Route der Industriekultur are located within the city limits of Dortmund. A visit to the site therefore offers an opportunity in many ways to learn more about the history and identity of the Ruhr area.

A special location in the city centre is the Dortmunder U – the former headquarters of the Union Brewery and the symbol of the city. Today, the striking skyscraper serves as a centre for the creative industry, as the home of the Museum Ostwall and as a venue for art exhibitions, cultural events and networking events. Other recommended locations include the Museum of Art and Cultural History, just a few hundred metres away, near the station, and the Natural History Museum in the north of the city.
Or you can enjoy a short break during a relaxing stroll through Westfalenpark, where film evenings and various events also take place on the stage by the lake in summer. Especially on warm days, the extensive park landscape with its blooming gardens and shady spots invites you to linger. For families, there are also numerous play and adventure activities on offer to make your visit a successful outing – whether it’s a few relaxing hours or a whole day in the countryside.
There are also plenty of opportunities for a high-quality evening out: including music, theatre or ballet at the Theater Dortmund, a visit to the Konzerthaus or a jazz session at domicil. Your chauffeur will of course be at your disposal for all your transport needs and will be happy to assist you with further local recommendations.
